It took a while to draw but I wanted to create one awesome team image that showed off all of our characters and stories in one place, across everything we have made as a studio so far, 7STRING, Afterlife Inc. and BPM.

Having them all in the one image makes everything feel so huge and epic… and exciting. We’ve got huge plans for all of these guys… this is our infinity gauntlet image… the ultimate crossover…

after all, they all live in the same Extraverse…

Hey guys!

I’ve only got and gotten myself involved in another Kickstarter again! But this one is big, much bigger than just little ol’ me!

The UK has a huge and astonishing comic convention scene and a leading light in that scene, bringing the San Diego Comiccon vibe to the UK is the awesome MCM Comiccon.

It’s huge, gargantuan in scale, but for 10 years they have always made time for people like me, indie self publishing comic creators. They have done this with the Comic Village, an amazing special section of the con reserved especially for self publishers to rock up and have a sales table at the biggest con of the country. It’s such an incredible opportunity for small-press creators.

So to celebrate this awesome thing 10 comics village veterans have been brought together to create a very special graphic novel, that will highlight what’s so excellent about the comics being made in the Comics Village and hopefully invite new people to discover it! AND it’s being made in association with MCM itself. Its an official product!

I am lucky enough to have been asked to be one of these creators on the book and it’s going to be a doozy! Get this, it’s one story about a character who travels through multiple universes. Each time he’s in a new universe it’s drawn by a different artist! HOW COOL IS THAT?

But that’s not all, the idea is, the more successful the campaign the more comic village artists can get involved with the Art Cards. An awesome deck of artwork from as many comic village artists as possible. The further we get the more you’ll get if you have pledged to receive the art cards!!

So please consider supporting this awesome campaign, you can read all about the story and see all the different artists involved, at the campaign page here:

And here is MY drawing of the hero of the story… Orion. WOOP!

Hey guys!

So I thought I’d drop you a little post to tell you all about Big Punch Studios! For those of you that don’t know, Big Punch Studios is the fledgling comics and media production company founded by me and 3 other awesome people, to tell the stories we are bursting to tell.

Although primarily focusing on comics, as that is the industry in which we all met and know best, Big Punch has grand aspirations and plans for tabletop games design and production, and video content too. But that will all come in time…

For now, I’m telling you guys because if you like my comics and art and 7STRING, and of course the crossover Big Punch production ‘The Heavenly Chord’ then you’re going to love what Big Punch Studios is putting out right now.

Big Punch Magazine (our flagship product) is coming back in June this year with ISSUE 2! BPM is a quarterly magazine, serialising 5 brand new episodic stories from the same minds that brought you 7STRING and Afterlife Inc.

Featuring the continuing stories of Cuckoos (extraversal space exploration and cosmic intrigue), Orb (New York threatened by an astonishing stone starship), 99 Swords (the hunt for all of the legendary swords) and The Wall (an acrobatic team of Catchers defend a city from a rain of multi-coloured crystals)! Also my daft cartoon Cat and Meringue returns in full technicolour!!

Here’s a double page spread from Cuckoos (art by me, script by Jon Lock)

AND HERE is a poster page from ‘The Wall’ (art and story by me!)

You can subscribe to the magazine on our website and don’t worry if you’ve missed Issue 1! We can post that right out to you if you order it from our online shop!! So if your craving more storytelling and awesome comic action after reading 7STRING then why not have a look at Big Punch’s website and online store. As well as BPM there is all of the Afterlife Inc. series as well and we promise much much more on the way.

Also, Big Punch recently put out its first ‘MOVIEWORDS’ film commentary on Youtube. Our first episode is ‘The Matrix’! So if you want to kick back and watch a film you probably know inside-out and listen to our (often humourous, always daft) take on what’s going on, then all you need to do is go to our youtube channel, get your copy of The Matrix ready and click play on both at the same time! Its a lot of fun!

So that’s it for now! If you want to keep on top of what Big Punch Studios are up to then you can simply subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on twitter or like our Facebook page. But your first stop should definitely be our website if you haven’t been yet! There’s even a free comic to read online too!

My decision for the future of 7STRING…

Thank you so much for all your awesome feedback. It was really awesome for so many of you to take the time to answer this little artist’s mental ramblings and I really appreciate it. It has helped me come to a conclusion on what to do for the future of 7STRING that is not only right for the fans but right for the book itself. And amazingly right for ME!

It is rare that you end up with a solution to a problem that literally pleases everyone but I think I have found it. The majority of you who gave me feedback said that they would probably wait for a graphic novel if I switched to issues. This is what I thought might be the case, and considering I have already messed you guys around in the past, it makes sense that 7STRING stays the way it is now.

As one person said, there’s a chance I could end up selling fewer of both. Another mentioned how they like how my storytelling has changed since switching to GNs. Volume 2 feels more cohesive than Volume 1 which was originally written in issues.

So there’s all of that. If the majority of people wait for the GNs then the issues won’t sell praticularly well and the boon that could give me would be diminished.

But then one person said something TRULY EXTRAORDINARY that I hadn’t thought of (and they will remain nameless but they will know who they are while reading this and how awesome they are)… what about DIGITAL ISSUES?

This is the perfect compromise.

  • The story is released more frequently, growing the fanbase, getting more people into 7STRING and providing a better more regular income for me through the likes of Comixology.
  • I face no up front print costs to make this happen. I don’t have to keep ‘back issues’ in stock, draining money with limited sales.
  • I can split the existing GNs into digital issues, so that new collectors (who discover the story digitally) can collect the whole story in issue format if they desire.
  • The issues will be cheap so people who already have GNs and can’t wait to see what happens next can buy digital issues, and still afford to buy the next GN when its collected for their bookshelf. (if they want of course!)
  • I can get my ideas out more regularly and keep my motivation, monetum and excitement up.
  • The revenue made from digital sales can be ploughed right back into GN print costs, offsetting against a future Kickstarter (making the goal smaller) and potentially making 7STRING self sufficient in the long term. Better business.

The one thing I would be keen to preserve is the sense of cohesive storytelling that I achieved in Volume 2 when it was not split into issues. Basically this would be on me, improving as a storyteller and writer and making it work. I am more than up to the challenge. The model would be that you could only buy the story in issues digitally and only buy it in GNs physically.

So there you go! Let me know what you think but this is whats happening. Over the coming months you will see the release of all of the 7STRING saga so far as digital issues online, most likely through Comixology. I’ve been working on making the GNs ready for Comixology so this way I can split up the workload and get through it episodically.

I can also say this: I WILL RELEASE MORE 7STRING THIS YEAR!! Track 6 (the first part of Volume 3) will go online before the end of 2015. SO EXCITING!!

So I hope you are all as stoked as I am. Its perfect and I can’t think of anything better for 7STRING right now. So to celebrate, here’s a teaser image for the Track covers…
